Kindling a Simple Christmas
"That is best which is capable of producing the greatest degree of happiness."
~George Mason
I'm feeling very simple this Christmas...in a very "use what we have" mood.
A stack of green shopping bags become wrapping paper...garnished with vintage ornaments and simple white ribbon.
Looking around the house, I find a rumpled wad of tulle (leftover from one of Katie's long~ago projects) and cut it into strips. I then tie them...one at a time...onto a simple strand of white lights...while watching Cary Grant and Loretta Young in "The Bishop's Wife".
I finished before the movie so...I folded the remaining tulle piece fan~style and tied it in the center. After cutting the folded outer edges, it sprang to life in it's new incarnation...an ethereal...pom~pom style tree~topper.
I draped the tulle/light garland around a mirror...and tied the tree~topper onto the highest bough...
After setting up an imperfect little tree (its only ornaments, tiny white lights and muted silver dragon~flies suspended from raffia) I relax...knowing that these simple tasks are enough to evoke the spirit of the season...we are happy.
~~~~~~
Wishing you all a Happy Christmas and holiday season that's been kindled by kindly, loving hands...and good thoughts.
Happiness, harmony and grace to all during this hallowed and gracious time of year...and always.
With love from,
Tracey and Family x0x
Tracey,
The lighted tulle garland is just beautiful! Something I would leave up all winter.
Hope you and your family have a lovely Christmas and Happy New Year!
Manuela
Lorrie, the tulle was so easy and I saw the concept on Pinterest...someone had done a similar trick with a clothes hanger (very cute BTW). :)
I loved your last post about the lovely gifts from Berlin. That Christmas Pyramid is lovely!
A blessed holiday to you and your my friend.
P.S. Thanks so much for the compliment on the tulle garland...I believe I'll take your good advice and leave it up for awhile...it makes a lovely night light. :)))
Beautiful!
Praying for a wonderful and blessed new year for you and your family my friend.
Mirroring those same good thoughts and prayers to you and yours dear Brenda. Thank you again for all your lovely points and pondering...they are so valuable. :)
Clarice, we are kindred spirits in that realm (i.e., using what we have! :) I am so excited that you'll be coming down here again...can't wait to visit with you!
P.S. Hope you enjoyed a blessed and happy Christmas!
I love the light/tulle garland. I am going to make one for a pretty birthday decoration instead of the usual (disposable) string of balloons.
What a good idea Eve...didn't even think of that!
lovely!
Thank you so much Angela! Isn't it funny how the simplest things seem to evoke loveliness?! As you noted on one of your lovely blogs, "beauty is free"! All that's needed is our focus on it and appreciation of it. :)
Love the tulle garland, could you tell me the size of your tulle strips?
I want to make some for a wedding reception.
Thanks so much Sissy...the strips I made were approximately 4"X 8" or so. I didn't waste too much time cutting them to perfection...instead I approximated and then trimmed the garland when I was done! Too easy...and quite relaxing. :)
Warmly,
Tracey
