I was at Goodwill yesterday and while perusing the aisle that has all the cute "knick knacky" things on it, I was thinking just how much so many of them cost retail.
I even have to set a limit at thrift stores. It is so easy to think because it is cheap, I need to buy something "just in case" but one can waste a lot of money over time doing that.
Books arrived, I put it on my blog. :)
I enjoy her work so I will go check out that article.
I have friends that never go window shopping and don't read home decor magazines because it's too much temptation. I on the other hand love window shopping and magazines and find inspiration from looking at all the wonderful stuff. So I guess it depends on the person.

Dear Brenda, you make such a great point about spending/buying something just because it's so well priced...I'm more than guilty of that when perusing vintage/thrift shops and yard sales! One of the ways I limit myself is by using my time~honored list :) and bringing only a set amount of cash and nothing more (i.e., debit/credit card or checkbook). In fact, Mike and I have a game we play when we yard sale...we each get ten dollars to spend (including our treat of coffee) and we cannot go over that amount. More often than not we bring most of home!

You are so right Manuela, it absolutely depends on the person. I'm like you in that I love window shopping. Personally speaking, I can't see myself ever giving it up. In fact, it inspires me to translate the money/expensive ideas into a frugal version, more often than not by using items I have on hand! It's more like a challenge than a chore and I've been doing it so long it's become second nature to me (I think you're probably the same way, judging from your lovely blog :).

Sometimes if we see something we want at the store I suggest we go for a coffee first. Those 'coffees' have saved us a lot of money over the years:)
P.S. I used to work for a market research company. You wouldn't believe how carefully crafted those ads and store displays are.
So smart...the "going for coffee first" technique!!! Yes, I'm sure you are absolutely right regarding the carefully crafted ads and store displays! Thank you for taking the time to share this info and strategy.
