Loss and Change

"The real things haven't changed.
It is still best to be honest and truthful;
To make the most of what we have;
To be happy with simple pleasures;
And have courage when things go wrong."
--Laura Ingalls Wilder

Well my kind friends...a sad event has happened.
My beloved father passed away a few weeks ago after a brief unexpected illness.
The world has lost a good man who led a good life.
Yet his legacy of love lives on in his children and grandchildren.

Prayers and good thoughts are always welcome
Especially now.

Sending love and appreciation to all good souls.

It is hard when a parent passes away, even if they have lived a long life. My mom was 85 and had multiple health problems so it was expected but it was still hard at the time.

(My dad passed away when I was a child.) Praying for you, my friend!

Dear Tracey ~

Please accept my deepest sympathies for you and your family during this difficult time. I could tell from your books and blogs just how much he meant to you. If I remember correctly, you lost your mother far too soon and he had to fill both roles for you. I know he will be sorely and deeply missed. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Take good care of yourself.

Dear Tracey,
The death of a parent is always hard and I'm sorry for your loss. Grief seems to be the price of love. My own father, who I called Daddio to his delight, died in 2011. I think that I was in a terrible state for about a year.

I'm very glad to find you and feel a fool for not looking earlier. I have an advance copy of your book Frugal Luxuries (now that's frugal) but have no memory of how I obtained it. I recently moved back to a house after five years in another province. There it was on the shelf, like an old friend.

So this is to say thank you. It has brought me much joy over the years. Next year we'll be building our last home and I know I'll have this on the much reduced bookshelf.
Love,
Jan

Dearest Brenda,

Thank you my kind friend. I apologize for not seeing this sooner as immediately after the burial our attention needed to shift focus to Rosie's long-planned-for wedding on June 30th. In the course of less than three weeks our family experienced a burial and a wedding. Brings to mind the old saying "without the bitter we know not the sweet". I've been just mourning and taking care of estate issues since.
Much love.

Dear Donna,
Your kind words and prayers are so welcome and very appreciated. Yes, you are right in that he filled both roles...quite well...for many years. Mike and I had long ago (decades) made it our weekly weekend routine to spend the weekends at my Dad's house. His absence leaves a definite hole...we are slowly working through the grief and on to a new normal. Thank you so much for your prayers and good thoughts.
Love,

Dear Jan,
You are so so correct. "Grief is the price of love." I might also add that hindsight has shown me that it's a very good deal in the long run. The love is eternal / priceless while the grief dissipates / evaporates/ transforms over time. Thank you so much for that much needed reminder.

I am so happy you have found me and shared the story of rediscovering the advanced copy(?!😊) of my book on your shelf after returning home.

I am honored and privileged to know that my little book has been a bringer-of-joy, if in even the smallest amounts. Thank you for sharing this with me and also for your good thoughts and condolences.

Warmly,
Tracey

Dear Lorrie, I apologize for taking so long to respond to your kind note. It's so funny to see your name as I was thinking of you earlier this week! Thank you so much for your kind condolences and prayers ... they are warmly welcome and most appreciated. Yes, it's been a roller coaster of emotions these past several months but such are the seasons of life. Again, many thanks for taking the time to leave your good thoughts. Hope all is well with you!

Dear Tracey,

I was rooting around in my office today for something and espied your Frugal Luxeries books. They are both nostalgic and timely. I decided to go on your blog site (I look infrequently), and am saddened for you over the loss of your Dad.
I wish you well in getting through the Holiday season...and all that entails.
Know that for this avid reader your books have been a lovely addition to my library and I look forward to reading them again.
Your ideas with a side of elan are truly uplifting.

Dear Kind Debra,

Please accept my apologies for overlooking this comment. I am in the process of trying to move over to another host...among many other things...and have been more than remiss in checking in.

Thank you so very much for your lovely, kind words and sympathy over the loss of my Dad. We miss him sorely.

I can't begin to tell you how much your encouraging and generous praise of my work means to me. I feel very blessed.

Love,
Tracey
