Our collection of Vintage Linens
is threatening to take over the house.
So much so that when I go to use my favorite pieces...
they appear lost in the jumble.
Being a Use What You Have sort of soul...I looked around for a place that would allow me to
sort and organize my most used pieces...
and oft forgotten linens I would like to use more!
It's often easy to overlook the obvious...
but when I spied one of our ancient armoires
hiding in plain sight
I knew it would make them a perfect home.
Zoey agreed.
After folding and storing some of our vintage quilts
I realized...
the project required a shelf of some sort.
When I looked about the house I came across this half~forgotten
little green shelf in a hallway...
holding empty baskets.
As I sifted through the plastic storage bins
filled with lovely linens
I chose and lovingly folded the pieces I knew I would use most often...
be it transforming them via sewing projects
or embellishing a table, window or sofa.

I threw in a few pillows that will soon be recovered as well!
We even left a little room for the linens to breathe.
Now...

Hi Audra!
I too am a long~time fan of using real furniture in lieu of (and in conjunction with) traditional kitchen cabinetry!! I'd love to see a picture. I'm trying to remember if there is one on your blog...I'll have to pop over and explore!! Thanks so much for being so generous with your own solution!

P.S. This armoire has a mirrored door but, of course, I forgot to take a phote of in with the door closed!!
I cut and pasted the link into my address bar and it was worth the visit!! What an amazing bargain...$30 for all that storage and charm!!

Hi SQ ! It's amazing how much more I am using them already because of their easier access and viewing!! I have some small bits of lace and more delicate fabrics that I'm also organizing on a smaller scale for the same reasons. To see them is to use them!! I'll be sure to post pictures as I finish my project and make use of these half~forgotten treasures.

I was expecting to see something a little different. I thought you woud have used some dresser scarves to line the shelves, letting the edges peek over each shelf. They can be useful on the shelf as well!
Hi Prudent Homemaker!! I forgot to photograph it, but this armoire has a mirrored door that is always kept closed thus... I chose to be more practical than pretty in this instance. I love the idea of lining the shelves, but I was being prudent during this project ;) and just wanted to get my linens stored quickly!! Impatient I suppose. I do use them more now that they're in a place that offers easy access but is behind a closed door. Perhaps when I get better shelving inside I will do it more creatively!! You are so right, it sure has the potential for a pretty vignette inside. Thanks so much for the great idea and inspiration for future projects.

i sold my armoir today, only got pennies for it, but I am having a clear out this junky place mood, and must go with it when it hits me. Besides, my new bedroom furniture awaits delivery! and it includes a chifferobe!
